1 Peter 1:1-12 // A Living Hope

The church is not a "Jesus Memorial Club," but a Spirit-filled dwelling where his actual presence produces inexpressible joy. To prevail in exile, we must move beyond knowing his story to experiencing his glory.

To prepare the church for life as "chosen rejects," Peter provides resources to turn endurance into rejoicing. First, he shifts the perspective, reminding us of our cosmic privilege and glorious inheritance. Second, he provides a certain future, pointing to the fixed date on God’s calendar for Jesus’ return. Finally, he deepens our experience; we are not a "Jesus Memorial Club," but a Spirit-filled dwelling where his actual presence produces inexpressible joy.
