God has shown himself to be a giving God. He is overwhelmingly generous; not stopping short of giving His own Son, Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

Because He has been so lavish with us, we live to reflect our God in the way that we give.

For those who have given their lives to Jesus, and have received him by faith, their debt to God has been paid in full by Jesus. We refer to this liberating truth as the gospel. The gospel frees us to generously give out of a heart of gratitude for what God has generously done for us, and in faith for what He will continue to do. We don't give in an attempt to pay for our sin or to win favour with God. Jesus fully paid for our sin, and has eternally won our favour.

Ultimately, the matter of giving is a matter of worship. Jesus tells us that where are heart goes our money follows. Wanting what is best for us, the Bible teaches us to give the first priority in our finances - as in all other resources - to glorifying God; showing our thanks, love, and faith in Him.

In terms of our attitude -- happily! If you feel like you're giving out of religious obligation, or any other way that doesn't lead you towards contented or grateful giving, we'd actually encourage you not to give at this time. God cares much more about your heart than your wallet.
